Nehalem also has a TLB bug

As i understand it now the phenoms are not that far behind core2 and in some cases can be faster but as i don't and never have owned one i can't say for sure.

??? Intel Core 2 is leaps ahead of AMD Phenom isn't it?

Anyway, at least they've issued a fix, hopefully it doesn't cause any problems in the speed department...

From a innovation point of view no they arent. Core2 is based on the same tech your old 386 pc was. AMD has implemented IMC and HT technology 5 years earlier than intel , and yet i7 is a "revolutionary" cpu...whats revolutionary about it? DDR3? AMD the first to build a quad core , the first to built dualcore...i mean in a single die

Intel should have known about the TLB bug because AMD first introduced L3 cache last year , yet it seems nothing was done to remedy this.

You will see AMD will innovate again with fusion , GPU+CPU fused together.

phenom bios fix reduced performance by ~10%. Glad i havent bought core i7 yet. Spread this news around the net, everyone needs to be aware of this!

Do Core i7s have a Phenom-like TLB issue? No, says Intel

This is simply a pointer to a previous document written in April 2007. This document is an application note (advises on programming techniques) that programmers have had since April of 2007. This item in the Nehalem spec sheet is a web pointer, under the heading "spec clarification". The reporter who wrote this did not contact us and we will try to clarify this with him.

SPEC CLARIFICATION AAJ1 was initially added due to an issue on the Intel® Core 2 Duo processor which was previously corrected with a BIOS update; this issue does not impact the Nehalem Family of CPUs. There are errata on the Intel® Core i7 processor that relate to the TLB. These all relate to improper translations or error reporting, and all of those that impact functionality have been fixed via BIOS updates prior to Core i7 launch.

Fud didn't really do it again, the issues are there, they are simply fixed by a new bios, just as the AMD one was. But frankly, in both situations your average home user, and thats 99.999999999999999% of home users wouldn't ever see the issue. The bios fix for AMD's seemed crude in that the performance hit , well they should have done better with it, though that could be mobo makers as much as AMD< also the fact that AMD were in low numbers production and it didn't actually take very long to get the B3 version without the problem out. They haven't made ones with the tlb bug in, heck knows how long, I can't remember when they came out, the b2's IIRC with the bug around last xmas, the B3's with the fix a couple months later, since then its a non issue.

EDIT:- officially speaking, their statement doesn't catagorically say its not a problem, its says there was a probelm and there is a fix, it doesn't catagorically state the fix doesn't effect performance, or anything else, they simply say its fixed.

Did anyone ever have problems with C2D's when they first came out concerning this?....... NO....

Is anyone having problems with the i7's concerning this? NO....

I'd wager that not many people buying the initial AMD Phenom's experienced any issues with the TLB bug.
Still didn't stop people harking on about it.

I sometimes think some of the comments made by people are to make themselves feel better about not having the i7

I agree :)

I doubt many of us are crying because we don't have i7 as were more then happy with what we do have and most of us have no plans to upgrade for at least another year. Why you would put this down to envy i don't know i don't remember a similar response when the phenom had it really didn't see many "people are just jealous they don't have a phenom" threads so seems a bit daft to me to suggest it is down to that in the case of i7.
