Nehalem - Quad or Octo cores?

Well, for me, my first Nehalem will be the Quad release, and also because Octocore won`t be available as far as im aware strate away for desktop sockets, and will only be available for 1567 - server boards at first.

Personally, i don`t think i`ll need that much cores the Octocore brings for a some time, and Quad should last me for a while.

They gonna come up with better naming conventions... Octocore... What are they going to call 16 or 24 or 32 cores? =p

Dual octocores and quad octocores might work for 16 or 32 =p

ewww

Or more latin will become common (whatever 16 and 32 actually are)

edit quick google

16 = sedecim
32= tri-duo? Thirty actually being Triginta but I can imagine it being shortened pretty quickly lol

Not meaning to digress from OP's subject,

but hehehehehe I just find it funny. Kinda like Intel having a hard time getting rid of the name Pentium where we get stuff like Pentium 4 lol =)

Hmm and I thought those octo- and quad- prefixes were greek, not latin?

It'd be funny - Core 2 Sececim or Sedecore? hehehehehe :D

Pointless post.

Pointless tech.

"ooooh I just spent £200 so I can have SEVEN core doing sweet FA instead of 3, wooooohoooo aren't I chuffed".

errrmm
no ta.

(insert stanard disclaimer about, "when they can actually write software for them, or write CPU drivers that can virually thread a single process").

I have donated 40% of my quad idle time to folding which i have running 24/7 however for me to ever think of upgrading to a multi core chip it would have to be cheap" to run

When is the Quad Nehalem being released? I've heard Q4 2008. I hope it's not any later because I can't wait much longer.
