I read somewhere that these new chips will use 130tdp, that seems like a lot of juice, be interesting to see how power efficient they are in real world usage.

I just hope they are released in October.....and not delayed for months which sometimes happens with highly anticipated hardware releases :rolleyes:

I`m upgrading from a slow pentium 4 system, and plan to spend about £4000 on a Nehelem system, and then I won`t be buying a new complete system again for at least another 2-3 years.

WTFS!? Is there really a £3200 performance increase in real world applications and games between a PC specced to the teeth and an overclocked quad core system with very good GPU which can be had for around £800??

Wow, £4k?! Why not buy a £2k machine for Nehalem then another £2k machine in 18 months? You'll be on average closer to the front of the curve, yet will spend the same amount of money...

A good rigg with high end parts imo always hits 1.5-2k easily....

Thats with all the bells and whishles though, its definatly not gonna be required and will be out of date 3 months later not to mention that 1.5k-2k u just spent will now cost £1k after 3 months

But hey im a hardware whore so its gotta be done

i don't really see games advancing till around 2011, so a new chip is only good for enthusiasts and people who will need the processing power or just those who want their computer to respond faster than there mouse click!

4k sounds right for a superb rig, watercooled with 30" screen soundcard and speakers.

Yes, I will be planning on going watercooled, and also needing a quality 24 inch or higher gaming LCD monitor, Sound Card, Speakers, Tower Case, Power Supplie, Fast 1TB Hard Drive, Best performing Graphics Card, Keyboard and Mice as well as the CPU, which will be the Nehalem Extreme Edition, and not forgetting the Motherboard which hopefully supports SLI for future graphics upgrade and 6GB of High Performance DDR3 triple channel memory, witch has to be very good for overclocking.

I`m not really interested in SSD's drives at the moment, mabay when they come down in price comparable to the current hard drives and with more superior performance.

Spending that much without having SSDs?

Sorry but if you don't get SSDs you seriously have more money than sense, (even more so than spending twice as much as you need to).

My setup would be 2x64Gb SSDs in RAID 0 and 2x1TB in RAID 1.

I may not blow the hole lot on a new system, it just depending on the prices of thing when im ready to buy the components, and anyways, if I was planning on buying all expensive high end parts witch is up to me if I chose to, then also adding a couple of SSDs in RAID 0 and and non SSDs 1TB drives in RAID 1 to the total price when purchasing would probably cost well over 4k.

Apart from the fact, SSDs would probably make the single biggest difference to the overall performance of the system compared to anything else?

The first thing I would add would be SSDs, and that would be on a system of about £1k!
