Neighbours and Parking Problems

This winds me up - get home from work and the binmen have left the wheelie bins blocking the drive so I have to get out and move them to get on the drive.

In fact, the law of averages should mean that they leave them somewhere else along the property frontage that was not blocking the drive -but no, every time...

I know what you mean. They just throw them anywhere BUT if you don't put it at the kerb-side, perfectly neat and straight you can expect hassle from the council.

OT: Just ignore him. I had a similar issue with a neighbour because friends used to park in a similar place when visiting. He threatened to go to the police and just told him to go ahead. Heard nothing since.

Lets have a proper look at the parking arrangement

You'll regret annoying your neighbours because your GF was too lazy to move a plastic box then park her car, although my council do it all the time too! :)

dont quote me on this, but i think its only "illegal" if you block someones drive with cars in, preventing them from accessing the road, but "legal" to block someones drive if no cars are on it.
im pretty sure my driving instructor told me this.

Assuming he comes home from work from the right of your picture, then I'd imagine he's annoyed because he can't swing onto his driveway in one go. I'd be very surprised if the police would do anything, as you're in no way blocking his driveway.

I've just had to deal with this problem and i was the one complaining.

We have an opposite neighbour whose teenage daughter and boyfriend have a car each and park in teh same spot your other car is. It makes it very awkward to get the cars off my gated drive, it is an accident waiting to happen. Me or my other half is going to end up hittig their car when we swing out at some point.

I actually went and had a word with them an dthe mum and dad said they have told them on countless occassions that it isnot against the law, but inconsiderate to park where someone is obviously going to need manouevering room to swing out.

We offered the compromise of they can park on our side of the road in front of our front room up from our drive. They said they didn't want to park their initially as they feared that would pee us off seeing their vehicles everyday. I said that if it meant we could get our cars off safely and the neighbours continued to park near to their house, then it's a compromise to which everyone was happy with.

Maybe they could offer you the same option - if they don't want you parking where you are, then offer to park on the opposite side of the road.

However, he was a d!ck for reacting the way he did - it put the haeckles/hackles/barriers up immediately and makes you less inclined to assist!

She moved the box back to where it lives and didn't bother reparking as she was just fetching a few things before leaving for the weekend herself. It was bad timing on this occasion.

Perhaps the parking on the opposite side of the road is an option worth exploring with him.

Not really willing to upload google maps links due to privacy concerns but may crop something later.

This is not true now ,i have a leaflet on it from local council and they will act and remove at least where i live

If he is just driving into his driveway he is a ******* anyway.

What kind of fool wants to REVERSE into oncoming traffic which they can't really see properly?

This!!! Really ****** me off to see idiots trying to reverse out of their drives into rush hour traffic because they are too damn lazy to park properly when they come home at night!

In fact buy him a copy of the Highway Code, wipe your butt on the relevant page and post it through his letterbox.

To be fair, I sympathise, when you see people try to actually reverse on as they come home, indicator on, come to a stop, and the ******* behind them practically stops on top of their bumper so they can't actually reverse onto their drive as intended.

I reverse into my drive on a busy road every night of the week. You pull up, indicator on and put the car into reverse and wait. 2 mins tops and you will be in your drive, having performed a much safer manoeuvre than trying to reverse out into busy traffic in the morning when there is also the fair chance that the pavements are busier too.

Or if you want to be really sympathetic to other road users, come home from work and drive onto your drive.
After dinner, when the roads are quiet, go back out and turn it round ready for the morning.

Good for you

Hardly sympathetic to the environment or your own wallet starting the car 5 extra times a week more than necessary.

Why are you confused? What I state makes sense. People reversing out of their drives cause utter chaos in the mornings...

Because what you manage to do or not do, bears absolutely no relevance to whether other people can manage it on completely different roads, with different traffic, in different parts of the country.

I've seen people on my way home, try and fail and have to drive away again because of things like what i've described, where the following traffic stop so close they quite literally can't do anything other than give up and try again, so I sympathise with why they choose to just drive on instead.

The fact you happen to be able to reverse on by stopping in the road for several minutes is neither here nor there frankly.
