Neo vortex and 4850

If your running stock clock & volts then you'll be fine, you only really need to worry about the vrm's if your overclocking or overvolting the card.

Do it right and take your time you'll be amazed by the results.
Heres my on stock cooler

And again with the NEO

Might get round to hacking the vrm cooler off of the original cooler this weekend if time permits.

i have no intention of overclocking, just in the intense humid summer heat I've noticed my card go to 90C, 85C i was quite happy with but 90C has finally made me slightly conscious of the heat. Shame it didn't notice it last week with the deal on

i don't doubt you, but have you any source that the vrm's don't need extra cooling?

I have a pair of 4850s in Xfire with two vortex neo coolers fitted. I had some spare zalman ramsinks, and I "hacked up" an old gigabyte mobo's northbridge cooler as well for use on the components that sit to the rear of the vrms ( I don't know what they're called but theres eight of them.)
Probably overkill on my part but in my estimation every bit of extra cooling helps.:)
