Hi

My nephew's car (an astra 1.6l 8 valve petrol - o3 I think) gave him a warning light the other day and he did the pedal test gave him a code the corresponds to the EGR valve.

I plugged an obd2 reader in and got a message from torque about the o2 sensor saying
"Closed loop, using 1 O2 sensor (feedback fault)".

does this mean that the O2/lambda sensor is likely faulty? (I've done some googling but that mainly brings back open loop errors).

I've tried unplugging the sensor and plugging it back in to make sure that the electrical contact is not loose, but my knowledge of car electrical/fuel systems is limited to say the least.

It could very well be the O2 sensor is faulty, but, before you replace it did you reset the fault code on Torque? If I am tootling around London in the stop/start traffic for long enough my engine light comes on with an O2 fault, which I reset and it doesn't come back up with normal driving.
