thanks for reading this...

What power supply is in the rig? Could well be a severe lack of amps if it is quite an old rig (you said he had a floppy drive)..

yep no problems

xfx 780i sli motherboard
crucial ballistix rqam 3gig
audigy 2 zs sound card
dvdr writer
coolermaster nvidia editon case.
samsung 400 gig hard drive

It wouldn't post with out it being connected.

Never personally tried it myself as I don't like to fry my components.. But I'm sure I have read a few threads were people have booted their rigs up and forgot to connect the 6-pin connector and boots up but just BSODs, hangs/freezes, etc..?

Scubes - What graphics card did he used to have previously? Could be a driver conflict issue, try boot into Safe Mode and completely wipe all traces of the previous ATI/NVIDIA drivers and then boot back into normal Windows and install the latest drivers fresh.

some if i can remeber right one or 2 of the bluescreens sayed something like irq not less than equal and the there pagefault something or other...

i hope he doesnt have to rma the card cos hes been waiting for a while he saved the money up for this wee card..

ill try the card in his bros pc when im up in his house again ..
