Hey guys,

I thought I'd try and do things the unix way and install git, macvim etc using Homebrew. What a load of tosh.

brew doctor reckons I don't have the latest Xcode, which I do... brew install macvim fails, all in all, pita and a lot more hassle that just downloading pre-compiled stuff...

I wanted it to be a slick and easy way of doing things... nope.

Homebrew seems to be having a few transition issues moving over to Lion and the new compilers that come with Xcode 4.1 / 4.2.

Never really had an issue with any of the package managers on mac. I use macports mostly but you need to know what you are doing and how the repositories work to get the most out of it and understand why something has not worked.

The command line is massively powerful but you can get overwhelmed quite quickly if you are following online tutorials. Things that don't quite work as they should, different setups on your computer to theirs etc.

As cromulent says, homebrew are having a few issues at the moment so it may sort itself out.
