Nest Cam

Agreed, but if anything did happen (burglary/fire etc) then cloud is a necessity as well. I presume it uploads on the fly so you'd capture any final moments.

To be fair if you want local recording to a desktop without cloud you may as well just plug a webcam into a PC. Same for the above.

I'm not entirely sure on the practical uses for being able to talk through the Nest Cam either - the dog thing is a bit lame and niche. Useful for freaking out visitors though.

Might actually get one for our office which completely skipped my mind at first. It's weird there's no real marketing material or sell to small businesses.

In fact I find their whole pitch quite weird; I showed my girlfriend the video earlier which I hadn't seen before and most of it was stupid. Leaving the cooker on, dog eating unpacked groceries etc. They also seem to assume you'll have one in every room for such uses.

The only realistic thing they promote is night time child monitoring.

Sorry, Nest Cam :).

One thing that's pretty silly is Google charging for delivery - a fair amount as well, £7.99 iirc. Every other retailer I looked at including Amazon, John Lewis and Currys was free delivery. You'd think they'd want to increase profits on each unit by cutting out the middle man but obviously not. Bought it from Amazon with Prime in the end, arrived today.
