Hi all - finally purchased a NEST - giving it a go with the installation myself; It's a new build, existing thermostat. Here's a picture (beware big image!):

There's also a grey wire in the background and also the ground (yellow green) which is connected into the wall.

can anyone tell me the correct way to wire this up for a NEST please, e.g which wires go where please? :)

Thanks for the response. Do I need to do anything with the grey one at the back (which isn't connected currently)? What about the earth? Keep that attached to the inbuilt cage?

Honestly Participant - no idea; Hence the thread!

Don't really want to bite the bullet and get someone in to do it, would like to do it myself! :)

I'll try to dig them out; I thought the current one was powered - with the battery only for backup purposes.

Will try to dig out them out now - cheers chaps.

electrical tape on the end, leave where is (or trace back to boiler and remove)

leave the earth connected to backbox (nest doesnt require earting)

what boiler you got?

other option is to remove all the wires back to the boiler and just run the ones you need (less wires going to the nest)

hey :)

it's a logic 35 combi boiler.

The black and brown wires are the timer wires, the problem is where the wires are, there's no power supply near, so I might have to get creative.

I've found where the wires go too, within the boiler (have to take from off and pull down the front cover). I can wire the heat link up from there, but need extra cabling to make that happen.

The more I dig deeper into it, the bigger a job its starting to look like! I have no idea how to get power to the thermostat (ideally don't want to move it), so I might have to get someone in to perform the install for me! :)

We've got an Logic+ 35 Combi boiler which I installed the Nest into recently. I could take a photo of the wiring if that would help?

That would be helpful, thanks.

I don't believe we have a spur no. I can't find it if we do!! I can see the wires cooing into the boiler and as per the picture, I'll have to take the L and N from there.

Now just need a way of powering the thermostat!! :)

Thanks again for the help

What type of cable goes into the boiler?
white one, bottom left of picture (by pressure gauge).

This is the inside of the boiler (same wire).

As you can see the black and brown should be the same wires which are at the current thermostat (probably grey one too!). But the blue / neutral one, doesn't appear to be by the thermostat, which is a shame.

Cables disappear into the wall, no visable box (wall boiler is attached too is the utility, other side is the living room). I've checked the cupboards underneath and behind, also behind the dish washer etc, no boxes anywhere.

yes new build :)

The black is labelled as "Room Stat Timer". As mentioned the white cable sleeve just disappears into the wall.

Below the boiler is a kitchen worktop, with the washing machine directly underneath and two cupboards underneath. I can see a copper pipe heading right (as you look at the boiler) but can't see any type of box, or anything similar which these would go into.

Yes there's a separate switch for heating so I can isolate it. It's in the downstairs toilet - probably 20-25ft away from the boiler and about 3ft away from the existing thermostat :p

Brill, thank you :)

I best get someone in to do it for me then! :D

Thanks again ZG002 - really appreciate the advice.
