I am considering buying Nest Thermostat but does it allow me to switch on the central heating as long I like and manually switch it off?

Not sure should I go with Nest or Hive.. hard decision!!

It baffles me how so many people don't understand the purpose of a thermostat.

You set it to a desired temperature for desired times of the day and your boiler does the rest.

As in why would you want to manually set it to run for 6 hours and then manually turn it off?

You tell it you want the house to be 20c and then it will heat up to 20c then turn off then turn on again when it drops below 20c.

You could do what you want to do by whacking it up to 30c then put it down to 10c to turn it off. But that would completely go against what a thermostat is designed for.

Buys a smart thermostat then doesnt use it.
Not touched mine since installing it that's the whole point of them.
To be fair, i bought ours because it was cheap and looks nice, and made sense to install a modern system rather than a basic rubbish looking one when refurbishing the system.

My wife is at home always, so we dont use any of its smart functionality at all, we just leave it on 21c 24/7/365 and never touch it :p
