My knowledge on networks and net connections is very basic, so need a hand please :).

My 10mb Virgin Media connection has been fine for years, no really big issues. But over the last week i seem to be losing connection a few times each evening, never been a regular occurrence before. Tried the basics like restarting the cable modem and my Belkin N1 Vision router, but no change.

Is there a internet connection log, like a txt file i can post or some 3rd party software that monitors my net con? Had a look in my modem and router settings, but couldn't seem to find any logs.

Are you on wireless ?

There are quite a few things that can affect the stability of your net connection. You could have a noisy line, interference from other things etc..

There should be like stats of your line like (how many times it has disconnected, data transferred etc) in your router configuration page.

Just had another look and there doesn't seem to be any log. I know it could be one of many potential problems, but i thought a log would point me in the right direction, weird.

Yeah its a Wireless router, im connected via ethernet.

Problems like this are normally the router, more so when it is a belkin.

Next time you lose connection check the cable modem and see if the sync light is still solid or is it flashing? That will tell you if its a problem with the modem/cable provider.

My money is on the router though.
