The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (formerly WinFX), is the new managed code programming model for Windows. It combines the power of the .NET Framework 2.0 with new technologies for building applications that have visually compelling user experiences, seamless communication across technology boundaries, and the ability to support a wide range of business processes.

It's not really deserving on the 3.0 moniker. It's just the 2.0 runtime with some new managed libraries (albeit big ones...) including WPF, WCF and CardSpace.

The next upgrade to the .NET platform as a whole will be .NET 3.5 (or atleast that's what one Redmond blogger thinks the version number will be) and probably the biggest new feature will be LINQ.

I don't think this thread has much relevance to the Windows forum's audience, so I'll get it moved to HG+P.
