I've got my daughter a pc with internet access but I want to make sure she can't access certain sites...you know what I mean. She is 12 and might get curious...

I want a freebie option but netnanny costs money. Anyone got a good suggestion for an alternative I can run on her pc yet won't affect my own pc access (not that I'm looking up pron but I sometimes watch ******** stuff)

OpenDNS
Windows parental controls
Don't give her admin

None of this stuff is fool proof. Where there's a will, there's a way.

On both Chrome and Firefox if you look at "Ad ons/Extensions" there are a few parental controls that work very well..to turn them off you need to enter a password.

Nice to see a parent taking responsibility for once and not taking it out on the ISPs for not doing enough on this subject. :)

Genuine question here

My parents never put any restrictions on the access when my sisters and I were younger and just trusted us really I suppose.

Is it now 'normal' to use software like this?

its what parents do these days in the end most kids are a lot smarter at the pc stuff and will get round restrictions but there no harm to making barriers
