I recommend the Samsung NC10 as well, brilliant device! Been using it constantly since New Year-ish.
 
Another vote for the NC10 here - mine is fantastic!

If you are a Sony fan though - a mate of mine has just picked up one of the "P" series ones with the 8" screen for about £380 as Sony are giving £150 cash back at the moment!

Surely nc10/nc110 is old tech now :)

Plus the OP is asking what is the best option at the moment and not what you guys got!

I say 1005HA or 1008HA.

Very close to the £300 mark you can now get an ASUS 1000HE, great little netbook, I'd highly recmmend it. I'm typing this post on one right now.

I did a lot of research before I bought it and for my needs it worked out to be the best. The battery life of 9 hours is amazing.
