Im looking to buy a netbook and i've read various thread but im still struggling to make up my mind. Im really looking to get one as a toy for when im away from home to keep music, movies etc and surf the net, if i could play poker on it too so much the better.

Budget is about £300 and i'd like at least 80Gb if possible and to be running windows.

Does anyone have any particular recommendations or are they all much of a muchness?

Thanks in advance!

The Asus eee probably have the best battery life, otherwise they're all pretty much the same.
I have an Aspire one - I chose this over the Asus because it has a bigger (and reportedly) better keyboard.

They're all very similar. Read some reviews which point out all the small differences, I went for an EEE1000 just because I prefered the look of it :)

Got my Aspire One the other day and not put it down! has everything you asked for and a certain supermarket is selling the Xp 1Gb 120Gb HD for 269.99. Although I just got the linux model and easily install XP

Writing this is a quite pub in the new forest with my Acer One (120gb HDD, 512MB and Linux). Why the need for Windows? OK, The standard Linux software supplied with the Acer is a little crap but in a few hours I had VLC and Amarok loaded and all my MP3s, photos and videos uploaded.

And it's small and fits in my wifes/babies nappy change bag (seriously, the front water proof pouch is the perfect size!) - just need to make sure the used nappies go in the other section...

I have the Acer too basically i enjoy the size of it rather than a big laptop!.
I also looked at the Eee PC and prefered the look and feel of the Acer, the Eee looks like its more aimed at the child rather than the adult. Always gets looks of wow and whats it do etc, I too have the basic linux one.
Cant fault it.

I went for the Advent 4211 - £279. Ticks all your boxes. Has a free slot for another 1GB stick of memory, and you can upgrade the HDD as well (seen them with 320GB drives:))

It doesn't look own-brand offensive, it's light, nice to use, and the 6-cell batteries should be out soon...

The Acer one does look nice and can see that bigger keyboard coming in handy, but the battery life on the EEE PC 901 is a major benefit over the acer one. If battery life is important then take a look at the 901.

The acer one has a glossy screen which can bug people. Avoid the acer one's that have a SSD it is reported they are very very slow.
