I quite like the idea of an Acer netbook but have they all got to have the motherboard removed to upgrade?

Is the memory soldered in?

Which model is the best to go for as i want one that is upgradeable and has a proper Hard Drive not the SSD ones. Thanks

nc10. Not acer, but it's excellent. Some have ram soldered in, some have one slot soldered and a second empty. SSD better than hard drives in almost every respect, why insist on the mechanical?

most the cheap netbooks ive seen that come with the SSDs in use awful SSDs with low storage and low performance

atleast with a netbook that takes a proper 2.5 sized drive he could upgrade to a decent SSD in the future if needed

As far as i'm aware all Acer One's come with 512mb ram soldered and a so-dimm slot that can take a single 1gb stick of DDR2 SODIMM RAM so you can have a total of 1.5gb RAM.

The Samsung NC10 is the better option because you can upgrade the ram from 1GB to 2GB by removing the little cover on the bottom. The hard drive can be upgraded to a SSD in the future but this requires the whole case to be taken apart.

The NC10 gives 6 hours battery which is great for a normal HDD netbook. I'm very happy with mine :D

Is the MS Wind a good buy too? Confused as to which would be the best / good price? Don't want to spend a lot but want a decent one. Looks like the Acer one is out as i don't like the idea of the ram soldered onto mobo! Plus people say it is noisy!

I have the mini 9 which is a tad smaller. Brilliant bit of kit, small and rugged with a great screen and absolutley no noise.

I think the mini 10 is less upgradable though.

Dell Inspiron Mini 10

What are your views people?

Just bought this one and after you get all the Dell chuff off thats bundled with it the machine isn't half bad.

The only thing I have noticed is that occasionally when I start a program off there is a pause of 4 or 5 seconds before it actually does anything which is a bit annoying.

With a gig of RAM and a 120 (or is it 160Gb) HDD I don't see too much upgrading being carried out - its a netbook afterall so basic tasks, some skype and surfing will be fine on stock specs :)

It is very light to carry though!

Cant go wrong with a Acer One 120GB for £130 :) (£100 for the SSD version) Tescos are doing them at that price but you may need to ask at the counter, they're not always on the shelf.
