Hi all,

I have around £250 - £300 to spend on a netbook. I will be using it for basic office tasks, word, internet etc however would also love to play older games and casual games on it and also connect it up to the tv for the occasion movie!

The most demanding thing I would like to play is company of heroes and it does not bother me playing in lowest settings possible, as long as it's playable, I will be moving around a fair bit and connecting to a monitor/tv on so the small screen does not bother me.

I really like the look of the hp 311 with the ion and hdmi however it looks to be a bit old now, are there any current alternatives to this model available or due out soon?

Thanks!

Rob

Not really.

Samsung as a Ion netbook (N510?).

You have the Asus 1215N with dual core atom and Ion.

The Zacate netbooks should come out soon-ish to compete with Ion platforms, but they will likely be more expensive than atoms.

or you have CULV laptops like the Toshiba T130, Asus UL30A, or Acer 3810TG.

These are more expensive (under £400), but come with 3/4 GB ram, GMA4500HD or better, dual core CULV (much better than atoms), while still retaining a decent form factor and battery life.

I'd wait for the Fusion netbooks to make an appearance, if you can wait a month. There are some available already, but they are expensive and MSI, Asus, Samsung should be getting on the bandwagon pretty soon.

Thanks for the advice.

I have checked out the netbook models you mentioned but like I thought they seem to be getting on a bit.

I think as you said I may be better to wait and check out the new range of netbooks in the next month or so.

Checked out the 311c on auctions sites and they are selling for a little less than they did when new!

Yup :( If i had of waited i could have spent my £250 on the Hp mini 311 rather than my Acer aspirce One D255 - however mines got 2 cores, with hyperthreading :D

Yeah, I had a netbook (NC10) but could never get used to the screen res and low performance.

I think I would like it even less now, it's about time they get a refresh and be albe to handle HD content without falling over. 1 gig is a bit cheeky as well!

I have a UL30A, and I couldn't be happier. It's not the best built machine, but it does the job very nicely, and has all day battery life. I like it so much I added a SSD to it (an old one mind you), and it's really smooth.

:) I wanted one of these, however was over my budget at the time :(. But my netbook does what i need it to, and i will be upgrading to 2GB later this year for that little extra boost.
