So what games will run acceptably on a typical Atom equipped 1gb netbook?

I have copies of MOHAA and Call of Duty around somewhere. Will they run ok?

I dont really think im going to attempt to run anything, dont think anything along the lines of COD etc would run very well at all.

Its the emulator route is for me :)

I only play Football Manager 2008 on my MSI Wind but that runs perfectly top european leagues selected and medium database. :)

Havent tried anything else but theres loads of videos on youtube showing people playing HL, WoW and some RTS games.

Warcraft 3 the frozen throne works very well according to a youtube video ive just lost the link to :D

It was the 8GB SSD model with xp put on and there were no fps drops on lowest settings at all.

(acer aspire one that is)

Unbelievably i'm running RTCW on my aspire one (winXP), and it runs very well at high settings. Also I can confirm HL, warcraft 3, emulators and the older C&C games run great too. Get the 120gb version and stick a load of games and divx on there and you're laughing :)

That is WC3 on the aspire one

And there is HL1

Sort of makes me want to install xp but i am so wanting to get used to linux etc.

Also have seen videos of Q3 open arena working very very well on the preinstalled linpus OS so i will defiantly be giving that a go.

Anyone have any idea of how much running say wc3 on linux using wine would affect the performance?

Good games I'd assume would work well would be

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2,
IceWind Dale 1 and 2,
Diablo 1 and 2
Age Of Empries 1 and 2

I use to play Dungeon Siege on Celeron 433Mhz CPU and a Voodoo 3 3000 at one time so I guess that would work too. I even had Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament running on that same setup. Oh yeah Dues Ex also run fine on it.

I never even thought of playiing FM on it! I was looking at music and movies with a bit of surfing and poker, was struggling justifying buying one but that might have sealed the deal! :D

My recomendations

Well on my netbook I have been playing Help! Aliens! which works really smoothly even though it is a 3D game. One thing about netbooks though is that you really need to plug in an external mouse and use headphones. But thats OK by me since I only really play games on my netbook when I'm at home. Plus headphones are good because they don't annoy your family!!!! Anyway, that is my recomendation. Its not a famous game but I don't run with the crowd anyway.

Apparently Oldblivion (Oblivion+Gfx downscale mod) works pretty well on some of the better Notebooks too.
Some of the netbooks can be overclocked too :D
