Hello OCUK,

My father using excel, powerpoint, microsoft money and other similar programs.

He is looking for an inexpensive netbook/notebook which would suit his needs.

He will not be doing any gaming, HD video watching, or anything even remotely intensive.

However, he is finding that his 2009 Intel Inspiron 11" is too slow.

Anyone have any ideas?
 
I would be surprised if his Inspiron is too slow, it's probably full of bloatware. Cheap memory upgrade, fresh install and away you go.
 
Really? Out of interest, what model is it? For £300, if he's quick, he can get the HP Probook 4320s for £399 with £100 cash back (£299). Way more than he needs but powerful enough to accommodate anything he might want to do in the future.

I'll have to look around for his order manifest to find the exact model. He ordered his laptop when the Inspiron mini's first came out I believe.

I've got Dell Mini 9 (Inspiron 910) here which I upgraded both the memory and SSD. I bought it for the GF two years ago. I find the keyboard annoying, but its more than capable (running Win7, Office 2007, etc).

You'll need to be careful with a new laptop. I'm pretty sure MS Money won't run on an x64 architecture OS, so worth bearing in mind.
 
i bought my mum a refurbed thinkpad x61s a few months back for the same sort of thing.

it's now running win7, i'd probably up the ram from 2gb to 4gb if it was mine, other than that it's all good.

<£200 or just over if you want the dock for it. it's a small business grade laptop
