Netbook of the minute?

Hi,

A family friend is on the market for a Netbook. Operating system would have to be Windows.

Not after a mega spec (If such a thing exists!) as the user isn't much of a tech and it's simply to replace a dinosaur of a desktop.

Price wise, I'm thinking in the usual £300-ish region... Obviously less would be good but nothing way ahead of this.

My sister has a Samsung NC10 which I think would be ideal but I'm not sure what is available these days and if something has superceded it at the same price point.

Any pointers as to what model numbers to look out for these days?

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.

Is it worth waiting for netbooks shipping with Windows 7? Will they be available for the same price? And will it be the same model of netbook or will it be a whole new range for them? The person who this netbook would be for is not likely to be able to install a new OS so ideally it should come with the "correct" one for him.

Thanks.

Its worth waiting another month for Windows 7 - the HP 311-C looks a good spec, and there will be a larger selection of the Nvidia Ion based netbooks coming out in the next month - Asus E1201N, Lenovo Ideapad S12 and Samsung N510 - I expect to be around the £300 mark.

I just ordered a 1005HA. My main purpose for buying this because of it's 10hr battery life, for gaming and a lot of processing power, my desktop is always available. The netbook will just be to stick to my chest (edit: lap) everywhere I go.
