looking to get a netbook for my gf for xmas

looking for under £200 if poss.

2 ive seen are

Acer One A110AB

Asus EeePC900

can anyone reccomend anything or does anyone have any of these can say if there any good?

looking for one with windows if possible but it seems less likley with the budget i have.

The only way that is really doable is to buy a linux 120gb aspire one for £200 and stick windows on it yourself....provided you have have a spare license of course......

And I would recommend the aspire one, its great value.

I have used the Linux version of the Acer. Its pretty simple to use with the Linux OS, but i found the battery to be a pain. I own the NC10 though, if want to shell out, I would reccomend that.

I have the Acer one, Linux version, nice and cheap, OS was a bit lacking (Linpus) so put arch and then Ubuntu on it, both worked fine.

I wouldn't reccomend putting windows on the Linux ones, they use SSDs and the amount of writes windows does (logs, paging etc.) would reduce its life significantly.

Not so as you'd notice with a modern SSD.

It would be obselete way before it wears out from to many writes.

A colleague has just got an HP 2133 for £195.

It's got a very good screen (1280x768) compared to the others (most of which are only 1024x600), which makes it much nicer to use, and lots of websites are designed for 1024x768 screens now, which could limit web browsing on the lower resolution screens, and the keyboard is quite nice to use too.

If I had a spare £195 lying around, I'd almost certainly get one for myself!

thats cheap can you say where ( email in trust )

The via chip is a bit limp and runs quite hot on the HP, but other than that its a great a netbook and would probably be a good choice.

And you can't really stick windows on the ssd aspire simply down to its dire write speed not life expectancy.

I have an aspire one (120gb HDD/Linux). Linpus is good but if you want to add more programs that standard then it's a bit of a learning curve. The good news is that there are loads of web-sites that offer brilliant advice (Linux users rock!).

I've dumped my crappy work laptop (an old IBM Xsomething) and now do a load of out of hours work on the One. I also have photos and MP3s on it too.
