Netbook with DVD Drive?

Hi all,

Looking for a Christams pressie for the wife, shes wanting a netbook, but she really wants one with a dvd drive. Ican't seem to find one, I dont want to spend anymore than £300 on one, has to have xP on it to. I was going to go for a pink dell mini 10v and get an external drive for it, but I dont think she will be to happy with that. oh and it doesn't have to be pink!!

A netbook with a DVD drive wouldn't be a netbook.

There are no Netbooks with built in DVD drives. These days you don't need them anyway.

ahh right thanks guys, what would be the next size up then? shes wanting a small laptop then, as small as really but with a dvd drive built in. If there isnt anything I think I'll run with the mini 10.

A Sony Viao with 13" screen is netbook sized and beautifully made but comes at a price premium. Maybe a second hand one though?

Not quite, asus do one, the 1001DN and Kohjinsha do a couple.

It's usually included the definition of a netbook - small, light, cheap, no optical drive... A netbook with an optical drive would just be a small laptop.

Thanks for these as stated in my second post, I know now that most netbooks don't have optical drives, and I am looking for a small laptop

IIRC there were some very small Sony Vaio laptops (TX series?) with optical drives. Fairly slow but you should be able to pick one up for £250-£400.

From memory, Acer to a range of small slimline laptops with DVD-RW's, 13.3" Timeline ones. Or as stated above, a proper netbook and USB DVD when needed?

Well I've worked it down to 2 netbooks, either the Dell mini 10v or the Samsung n130, I've been looking at reviews and they both seem pretty decent for what I'll be paying. However which one is more likely to last? and which one would be better for my wife in the long run?

samsung has better battery IIRC

the dell has a good modding community but im not sure your wife will care aboutt hat
