Hi,

I'm thinking about getting a fairly low-end netbook (~£150 area), to take with me to hot sandy places where I may just have to hop between places with very little luggage space.

Basically I just want something I can watch films on (dvd drives are around £15 for em), and watch films etc from an external hard drive, and use wireless internet.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to go for/what to avoid?

Most of the ones available on a competitor
seem to come with linux on - which I have never used - is this likely to be an issue, although I'm happy enough installing XP instad...

Any steers appreciated

You may want to edit out the competitor.

Be wary of the cheaper Netbooks with 3 cell batteries, they don’t last long @ 2hrs ish. Especially if watching a film so this kind of defeats the object for you. If you can its worth spending the extra for a Samsung NC10 for performance and battery life.

Check out the Acer One thread and the NC10 thread.

Some of the smaller / lower end ones feel more toy like than they should.

No need for a DVD drive really, plenty of options to watch off the hard disk. Again the more you carry round the more it defeats the point in having a Netbook.
