At the weekend out house has laptops, phones a PS4 and Xbox One connected to the VM superhub 2. I was reading that getting a Netduma might be advantageous to help with pings and connections because of the amount of devices connected. Is this true or would an alternative router be any better?

Do you actually have any significant issues to begin with as your post doesn't mention severe ping issues and non of the devices you mention are massive bandwidth hog's (other than downloading games/updates which are not latency sensitive). Most (decent) routers - that's not the SH2 - will allow you to do on LAN QoS and i'd look to them personally.
