Netflix Atmos?

I would love to be able to watch and hear the Netflix Atmos titles as they become available, but I don't have a 2017 LG OLED ( mine is the 2016 B6V, hooked up to a Denon AVR-X3400H ) and I don't want an Xbox.

Is there another option/streaming box that will fit the bill?

Sorry but aren't there bandwidth limitations with the current implementation of ARC, since generally the sound processor is doing the S/PDIF and ARC at the same time. ARC by it's current defined standard only has the same bandwidth as S/PDIF.

But as I understand it those LG TVs are "breaking" standards to do it, it's not until we start to to see HDMI 2.1 which includes a new specification for eARC will it be done correctly (safely ;)) and officially.

It still works fine though.

But it relies on the device at the other end of the chain ignoring standards as well and that opens up a whole world of manufacturer support hurt, I'm surprised LG have been able to get away with it.

**Edit: Reading around it does, in fact, look like Yamaha, Denon et. al. aren't particularly happy with LG at all (Probably as much over possibility of lost revenue as people look to upgrade to receivers with HDMI 2.1 on ;) as much as the abuse of current standards)

Don't get me wrong I think it's great that LG have found a way to innovate with current tech but it does set a bit of a risky precedent and a "Wild West" when standards are ignored.

Funny you should mention Denon as one of the manufacturers not too happy with LG. My current AVR-X3400H is due a firmware update to enable eARC over HDMI 2.0 ;)

Hands being forced and lost revenue does not make a happy company :D

The more you read it looks like LG at the behest of Netflix have broken ranks and put the proverbial cat among the pigeons. I've actually gained a sneaking respect for LG over this, it's doing something for the user base as opposed to the share holders :)

As an aside the new Amazon Fire TV released on October 25th could be getting the Netflix Atmos update sooner rather than later which is odd when you consider Amazon and Netflix are streaming rivals.

It's just a pity that the Apple TV 4K is appalling in it's playback and format support but unfortunately the overtight trousered London Hipster set will buy it en masse :(

But if the stupid money goes in Apples pocket , won't the good manufacturers in the market have to reduce their prices, to out beneift ? or, will they be wiped out ?
maybe the market is becoming congested/saturated though, as folks are spending less on hardware versus 'experiences'(fancy hamburgers from cuisine forum,...)

netflix coincidentally announced price increases too
