I signed up to a free trial of netflix, who offer HD streaming.

Watching it on the PS3 on a 1080p TV, to me at least it seems nothing like HD.

(I am on a 17 meg connection and when I press start it says its HD in the top left).

Is love film any better as tbh, once I have finished with breaking bad I will move onto movies and imo an upscaled DVD looks better.

I've not used Netflix so can't compare it to that, but althought some of Lovefilms titles are marked as HD, they're really not particuarly good quality, and I have a fast connection too.

If you're concerned by quality in the slightest, I don't think streaming's the way forward. Just sign up to Lovefilm and get the Blu-rays posted.

Netflix will do a very good hd stream if your internet is fast enough. I can get medium hd on my lowly connection and it looks better than anything lovefilm were able to achieve.

I couldn't get love film to work at peak times just wouldn't work and and normally just stutters

Netflix works faultlessly and my kids love the selection of cartoons

None of them are really HD. It just means a better bit-rate compared to the normal stream. Never going to compare with the bit-rate from Blu-Ray, no matter how good your broadband.

I find YouTubes 1080p to be the best quality streaming.

Lovefilm is only hd on the Xbox live.

Sky Go is not hd.

Netflix have recently reduced the bit rates with supposedly more efficient encoding so that high hd is now 1080p and med hd is 720p - pic looks a lot softer IMO.

Forcing 1080p doesn't help a single jot with the bit-rate though. Just increases the resolution.

It ensures it doesn't drop to low or medium settings. If you go into you account you can leave I as auto detect or force low/medium/high.

Also Netflix but rate is pretty good. It's far better than love film or other services.

Yep. This is what legal download/streams currently offer.
The state of movie downloading today is similar to the music downloads 10 years ago. If you want top quality, you have to break the law OR buy a physical disk.

In the future, we might see iMovies (analogous to iTunes), who will offer streams of similar/better quality than those offered from illegal sources.

In fact, you have uncovered one of the reasons why some people choose to use illegal downloads, rather than legal services - they have no comparable choice.

I have had Netflix for months now and also sub to unblockUS. I use the xbox 360 and have had NO ISSUES whatsoever with quality. Everything I view is HD. Yes it can take a few minutes to reach HD but most of the time its only 15-20 seconds before its in good quality. When I trailed Lovefilm it, it looked to me like a flash movie. Pixalated and not very good in general.

Netflix to me is very good and worth the money.

For your information i have Virgin Broadband 10mb. like I said. I have no issues with quality on Netflix

I'm on sky fibre and have no issues with HD streaming, like above poster, I also use UnblockUS. Netflix is really good for streaming, especially older films.

Lovefilm is poor, and I can't tell the difference between SD and HD. I only use Lovefilm for my games rental because the streaming is pants
