I'm surprised there's no post on this already as it's a new Netflix show and looks pretty good. Huge $120m budget too, even Marco Polo only cost them $80m

Haven't watched any yet but just about to sit down and get started.

The Get Down focuses on 1970s New York City - broken down and beaten up, violent, cash strapped -- dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them - except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGBs to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco -- told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city, and the world...forever.

Just about to give it a watch. Finally some decent 4K stuff on Netflix. This, Stranger Things, Narcos etc.

I forgot this was coming out and had nothing to do yesterday today so thought I would binge it. Started off a bit weird tonally but does find its footing and by the end was really enjoying it. Definitely some of the better acting from children I have seen and even though not really my kind of music I was able to appreciate it. They have certainly got the 70's mood right and the show looks great but the pacing does lull in places.

Sadly.....did not realise it was the first Netflix series afaik to only air half of the season! So finished episode 6 and no episode 7. Might of slowed down the binge had I realised :p

8/10 - Though, takes a while to find its groove, as the first episode especially is a bit of a mish mash of genres but it gets there.

Ah no wonder the i thought his eyes looked dead, it's Jaden Smith. Edit - oops, it's not he plays the spray painter

I didn't realise they only released half a season :(

I kept reading about this and thought it sounded great. Finally watched the trailer and oof, looks dull as dishwater :(

I started watching this last night and just kept on watching. Loving it so far. It's not perfect but thoroughly entertaining.

EDIT: Episode 5 knocked it out of the park. What a great episode. The music and feel has really got me and I agree Mylene certainly can rock a dress :)

My god, this is incredible. Half way through the first episode and that early night I was planning is looking harder and harder.

I like the fact it is compretely original and different from anything out there. I am not so keen on the overly musical disco bits, but the rap/MC bits I love. the music is so good, but that's too be expected with Nas and other big names being involved. Incredible soundtrack.

Only an episode and a half through but what a fantastic show. I'm loving all aspects of the music, in which they have got the 70's feel so right!!

Looking forward to resuming my viewing :)

Herizen Guardiola is only 19! She has so much potential from this.

The more I watch it, the better it gets. Little Will Smith isn't even that bad either!
