I think I may have posted earlier to the wrong forum. Sorry about that. Here is what I said:-

Hi Folks. I’m a newbie here & hope somebody can help me with a Router problem.

I’m trying to set up a NETGEAR DGN1000 modem/router. I’ve managed to get connected to my ADSL service & have it available on all my networked computers including those connected by wireless. However I have a problem.

My network printer (XEROX Phaser 6110) nor my IP camera are visible at all whereas if I use one of the other routers I have, they can been seen & used. (I’m changing Routers as the others tend to lock up). I’m sure I’m a click away from getting things right but which click I have no idea & have become very frustrated. Any help will be MOST appreciated. Thanks.

My first thought would be whether the printer and camera are appropriately configured to obtain IP addresses by DHCP as the Netgear may well be using a different subnet than your previous router(s) on which these devices appeared to behave.

Your IP camera model isn't specified and I've no experience with your printer, but you may find that you have to connect them directly to a PC in order to affect a configuration change to subsequently get things working over the network.

Regardless of manual or dynamically-assigned addressing, you'll be on the right track when you can spot the printer and camera in the 'Attached Devices' section of the router's web interface and of course you should be able to at least ping them from a PC by this point.

Well it's now well past 2:00am here in Southern Spain & I've been playing around trying to spot what might be wrong including the changing of settings but alas, all to no avail. At no time did either the printer or the camera show up as being "seen" by the router. I tried installing the printer from scratch which involves no more than using the setup CD from Xerox. To give it a full & proper chance, I'd deleted the old installation. If one choses that route & elect to install it as a network printer, the next step is finding the printer. After several attempts, it found nothing.

I then unplugged the Netgear & plugged in one of my others. I happened to pick up a Belkin as it was close to hand. I ran the printer setup & in seconds, it found the printer & carried out a full install & did a perfectly normal test print. I did the same on a newly reformatted laptop with the same result.

Regarding the camera, that was On Line on my network & also visible to others on the Internet but again, only after changing to the Belkin. From experience, the same results will happen if I try one of several D-Links routers I have (various models) and a couple of other lesser known routers given me when people have acquired new ones from their new ISP. Unfortunately they all tend to overheat & lock up hence my buying the Netgear hoping it would prove better.

BTW, just one more point. Usually all my networking is done by connecting to an 8 point Switch (not enough ports on normal routers) but I've even tried plugging the printer directly into the Netgear Router but that also made no difference. That wouldn't have solved the camera problem though....it was just one of my attempts to get something. The camera is some distance away from the Router so communicates via a WAP which is cable connected to the Switch (& of course then has its link to the Netgear or whatever Router is in use. Hopefully somebody will have enough experience with my particular Netgear Router to be able to point me to the section when I might be able to make the all important changes(s). Many thanks for the input but as above, it aint a workin yet:
