I have just got rid of my crappy usb modem and have got a Netgear DG834 v4 ADSL2 Modem/router. I have also been addressing my phoneline/network cabling as it was rubbish so got a NTE 2000 faceplate put in (has a phone socket and ADSL socket on the faceplate). Now I have acouple of problems:

1) If I connect the cable from the NTE2000 ADSL socket to the Modem/router the ADSL light does not come on and no connection. If I plug a filter into the phone part of the socket and plug the Modem/router cable in to that it does work. Does anyone know what is going wrong there?

2) I went through the modem/router set-up and got connected but everytime I connect to the internet it asks for the user/password. Is this normal? Once logged in with the user/password it goes to the Netgear router 'homepage'. This is kind of tagged on to the BBC web address: http://www.bbc.co.uk/setup.cgi?next_file=start.htm. I can get on other web pages but when I go to www.bbc.co.uk it just takes me to the router 'homepage'

Can anyone help as I'm tearing my hair out and I haven't got much left to tear out!

Update on this: The networking fairies seem to have been toiling away and now part 2 of my questions has sorted itself out. I no longer need to log on every connection, it doesn't go to the router homepage thing and I can get on the BBC pages now. Weird!

If you cant get a signal from the adsl socket but from the phone then the plate must be faulty unless you have wired in some extentions

Well going into the NTE2000 socket I currently have wired the white wire going to point 5 the orange wire going to point 2 and a green and black left over. Looking up on the net I think I need to connect the 'ring' wire to point 3 but don't know if the ring wire is the green or black one? I think this is the route cause of the problem.
