Netgear DG834G connection speed issue - upgrade needed?

I'm currently using a Netgear DG834G v2 which I have had for several years. So far it has been rock solid, and connects flawlessly at 8Mb. I recently got an email from BT saying my exchange had been upgraded, and having checked I should now be able to get 15Mb. However, no matter what I do my router won't connect at anything above 8Mb :(
Is there anything i can do to the router to get it to connect at a higher speed, or is it simply too old, and it's time to get something newer?

Thanks in advance.

I only have one broadband socket, as I have the original engineer installed version with a master plate.

Line stats are:

Line Att 17db down 4 db up
Noise Margin 23db down 24db up

Thanks - I'll wait till I have it confirmed that I can definitely get ADSL2+ at my house before I change the router though, just in case...
Will probably get one of these as I have been happy with Netgear.

According to the tests I have done, I'm getting pretty much the maximum I can at the moment, so will stick with what I have until I can find out when the local cabling will be upgraded.
Fortunately BT have a stand in the local shopping centre, and the guys there are always very helpful - could barely understand the guy in India I spoke to on the phone.

They are actually pretty good, and will find out answers to stuff they don't know. They appear to have access to resources/numbers that aren't published to us mere mortals. I'm sure they should be able to find out when the cabling is scheduled to be upgraded. They just use a stand as shop rentals are ridiculously expensive, but they want to have a presence.
