Can anyone be of any help, I've got an old Sky Netgear DG834GT router that I've flashed using this link http://go.avforums.com/?id=223X354&x...-recovery.html, I can now see all the settings, I want to use it as a hard wired switch (NOT wireless) (just to route internet upstairs for 1 pc and for 1 pc downstairs), using LAN port 1 to plug the cable modem into then port 2 for 1 pc and port 3 for pc upstairs, I've turned off dhcp, NAT, and there are no settings setup in the firewall, to no avail, i get internet connectivity to the pc downstairs, but the pc upstairs only connects locally (No internet) can anyone be of any help?

I know I'm trying to use a ADSL router to route Cable through, but apparently it can be done if just using it as a switch!!

The DG834GT has a secret setup option that you can reach via http://<YourDG834IPAddressHere>/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm

Here you can put the DG834 into Modem Only mode (bridge mode).

I've also tried this to no avail, is there any way I can get this to work, internet on both pc's??

TIA

You'd require a WAN port for the router as you're trying to link 'different' networks, at least this is how I understand it. Technically, the WAN port on your DG834GT is the PSTN connection which is obviously completely incompatible with ethernet.

You need a proper cable router. The DIR-615 sells for cheap on that famous auction site.

Hi there, yeah I know what your saying, but I'm not using the PSTN port on the router I'm going in to the first LAN port on the router with the ethernet lead, apparently there is a way of doing this if you want to use it as a hard wired switch, well accordin to this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=15329151, just why can I not get internet connectivity on the 2nd PC, must be a simple setting to sort it!

I've got a DG834GT setup as a Wireless Access Point. Can't say I've ever tried plugging anything into the other three free switch-ports on it, but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be working.
I've got a WNDR3700 elsewhere that I've setup similarly (but I can easily get to it, the DG834GT is in the loft!), and that definitely works as a switch on its three free switch-ports as-well as being a WAP.

The DG834GT is on firmware V1.03.23. NAT is set to "Disable firewall" and "Use Router as DHCP Server" is not ticked.

Don't think I did any other settings on it.

It is possible to use an ADSL router as a switch.

It's also possible to use an ADSL router as an access point (assuming it has wireless in the first place).

It isn't possible to use an ADSL router as a cable router (and a router is required in this situation).
