i am looking to upgrade my wireless router from the Netgear 834gt, as i keep getting dropout connections to my laptop, PC, Iphone, but not all at the same time, it will lose connection to one maybe 2 of the 3 things connected to it, a reboot of the router sorts it, but its getting quite annoying
so i am looking at the Netgear DGN2000 ADSL Wireless-N Router

which is on offer at the moment for £57.49 inc VAT

so is it any good?

Wow That,s spooky I was just going to write the same thing :-0

How old is this router and is it any good, I will be coming from the Netgear DGN834g which has been good to me though now my Squeezebox keeps dropping out and the feed to my PS3, computer Keeps saying limited service?

My motherboard has a gigabit port would this add allot more speed to and from my router and gaming pc...I believe the Netgear DGN2000 does not have gigabit port

Ditto ditto....can anyone confirm if the DGN2000 is Vista 64bit O/S compatible please? Great buy as the other online stores seem more expensive than OcUK....:D

What do you mean "Vista 64bit O/S compatible"?

It's a router, there is nothing incompatible about it, you plug into it with an ethernet cable so as long as your network card is supported in your OS then it should/will just work fine.

As for the wireless component of it compatibility there will be down to the wireless adapter that you use.

it got here eventually, the DHL guy said he tried to deliver at 13:15, and had left a card "LIES" there was someone in ALL DAY, and no card was left either, i rang up DHL who rang him, and he said he had tried to deliver but no answer, and when he went back to his van to get a card, he had none left, so why put on his PDA that a card had been left?
i assume he doesn't have a pen, and paper in his van?
anyway my request to the operator was that i needed the package today, so he brought it round, and delivered it only 10 minutes after my phone call at 15:30, but he was apparently back in Preston, i am in Blackburn a good 25 minutes away on the motorway, anyway that aside

the router switched on, asked me if i wanted it to detect my settings, and within 40 seconds i was connected to the net, all it asked for was my user name, and password, i use a static IP, and all was sorted, i was even able to connect all my devices within minutes of turning it on.

i dont have any "N" devices so cant test speed between "N" stuff

so far so good.

Hi all,
Well i now have mine and to connect i used the back-up option, backed up all setting from old netgear then installed new DGN200 main screen re-store all data and all connected within seconds, was most impressed..

At first wireless on laptop seemed a bit weaker but now seems better ?

If i set wireless to the N and not g-b I have 7 channels, but would my PS3 and Wii still work???

Ive had one of these for a while and its been 100% flawless.

Wireless signal is very good throughout the whole house and even handles my 3 pcs, and 3 laptops online at the same time without any problems.

The interface for the settings is the usual netgear affair and very simple to use, yet gives all the options you could possibly need.

The unit gets quite warm after a few days so keep it ventilated to avoid problems. Ive had mine on and connected to the DSL for over 3000 hours before needing to unplug and re-synch.

Whats the difference between the DGN2000 and DG834N?

The price!

DGN2000 is less than half the price of the DG834N and seems to have the same features.

The DGN200 has external antennas and the DG834N has internal.

wow got in there just in time, its now £74.74 inc VAT

anyway, top router, its very stable, gives me my full speed connection (8128 down), much better range than my 834GT, and that had a large booster Ariel on it, i now get full bars in my loft on my iphone, and with my laptop which is a "G" rather than "N", and the router is downstairs so a full 2 floors in between.

Hi,
That's good...I'd read mixed reviews on the DGN2000.
Are you able to do the following with the DGN2000:
1) Set up static LAN IPs to specific Mac addresses ?
2) Set up Port Forwarding rules to those specific IPs ?

Have you been getting better signal strengths vs your old routers ?

Many Thanks.

1) Yes

Brill...thankyou. :)

I've currently got an SMC Barricade and despite numerous attempts it can't do 1. And 2 just doesn't work. So I end up using the ole unsafe DMZ option.
But it's very good at giving me good signal strength.
(Sorry, came from an old Netgear which would allow port forwarding.)

Anyhow, thanks muchly for the replies.

how did you do that? I have a DG834GT and a new DGN2000, I backed up the settings from the DG834GT and tried to restore it on the DGN2000. But it would not accept it, says restore failed????
