Hi there,

Does anyone know a way to get a Netgear DGN2200V3 to restrict how much bandwidth a IP or MAC address can consume?

If not can anyone recommend a sub £100 ADSL router that can :)

Thanks

From the Netgear FAQ here.

11. Does DGN2200(B)v3 have Quality of Service Built in?
Quality of Service (QOS) is built in and DGN2200(B)v3 can be configured to prioritize the traffic based on different applications such as VOIP, Video and Gaming. It automatically assigns the right priority to the most popular applications.

12. What types of QoS does DGN2200(B)v3 support?
It supports 4 types of QoS service. This includes QoS settings for applications, on line gaming, MAC address and Ethernet LAN Port. The user can configure QoS based to set Internet traffic priority for the best efficiency for the user's situation.

No idea how well it actually works.

You should be able to turn QOS (it seems supported from what i googled) and put the mac address of the device in the low priority. You cant limit it as in only 40GB a month or something though. But QOS should prevent that one mac hogging all the bandwidth.

ye QOS really isn't cutting it at the moment as while my wife streams on Netflix any online gaming I do my latency is up and down like a whores drawers. Was looking for a way to limit Netflix to say 400Kbps

you could do that by installing the software on your wifes computer. Something like netlimiter should work. Although she could just dissable it :P

Another possibility is using a (semi)managed switch like the Netgear ProSafe GS105E (note the E the non-E models are unmanaged) it has QoS including rate limiting though the slowest rate limit options is 512kbit/s.

Never actually tried the QoS features though to see how well they work in reality as QoS is managed further downstream.
