hey all quick question, just wondering if my homeplug is dead ?
bout a netgear homeplug 85mbps twin pack about 3 years ago for £75. been using it most of the time between then an now.
last night i unplugged one of the adaptors in the wall in the living room (the receiver) and planned to move it to the bedroom and plug it into a second router as another access point.
now i removed the lamp that was in the socket and then plugged the home plug in..... the power came on an then there was a "pop" sound.... i thought it was my head hitting the lamps table and knocking something over but when i looked at the home plug none of the lights were on.... uh oh.....
so now i'm wondering if it's completely dead or is there a chance of saving it?
i took it out and tried it in several sockets in the house and also tried the other homeplug in the same socket and it worked fine....
do these things have a fuse inside that i can change or is it only suitable for the bin? would much prefer to save it as... well i know they have come down in pive and for what it cost i can get a 200/500mbps set now.... it's that i spent £75 initially and don't fancy spending any more on it
what do ya think?
on a side note i did want to use the router as a wireless extender and saw that the default router firmware has the wireless repeater option but as it's from virgin you have to flash it whih i seem incapable of doing
so i wanted to use the homeplug to connect to one of the LAN ports and just disable DHCP on that router and it has a different access point name.
