Netgear Homeplug help!

Hi guys,

I've got a home network setup with 2 PCs in the same room as the cable modem. These are all connected to a Netgear router and everything works fine.

However, now I'm moving the 2 PCs to a different room and I want to connect the cable modem without rewiring. I thought I could just connect the cable router to a Homeplug (HDX101) and then connect another one to my router, but that doesn't work. I just spent 20 mins on the helpline for them to tell me it's not possible. I swear they are just a bunch of parrots that need to read something off the screen before they can do anything.

Anyway, is there a way of getting around this. I have a feeling that the cable modem definately needs to be plugged directly into the router, so my only option here is to leave the router in the same room as the cable modem. If I want to connect my 2 PCs do I need to have a switch in their room and connect this to the second homeplug?

To try and simplify:

Room 1 - PC1 and PC2
Room 2 - Cable Modem

Equipment - 2x Homeplugs and 1x 4 Port Router.

How do I get my PCs connected to the internet??? Do I need any more equipment?

That's what I'm thinking.

I've now connected the following:

Room 1 - Cable modem to router to homeplug
Room 2 - PC to homeplug

and I can get the internet working.

So I'm guessing if I put a switch in Room 2:

PC1, PC2, NAS to Switch to homeplug

then everything should be sorted.

Can anyone confirm before I buy a switch tomorrow???

Hmmm ... it's definately not working when I plug the cable modem into the homeplug:

Room 1 Cable modem - homeplug

Room 2 Homeplug - Router (cable modem socket) and PC1 to Router (socket 1)

I might just bite the bullet and buy a switch today ...
