Hi all just a quic question regarding my netgear router/modem

Not long had the thing (Bought off these very forums) and noticed that the thing keeps restarting

Most days its great not a problem then other days its just impossible to use the internet and have to go back to the good old BT Voyger modem

Anyone else had any problems like this or is it just me ???

Think its more the modem toally restarts rather than just internet connection

Ive had 2 netgear modems and both died on me due to the wireless crashing the damn things -.-

Drove me potty at the time, went to a belkin one and havent looked back since

I had this problem along with weird wireless behaviour. Binned the router a got a new one.
It is a fairly new one?
Have you had a look in the logs?

A home router by definition contains a modem btw.

our belkin one strugges when you use uTorrent with it.. even when you limit the upload.
What is the best router brand anyway?

Netgear all the way tbh, make sure u update the firmware tho. As far as utorrent is concerned just make sure you open the req ports and allow the service on the router firewall( if it has 1~)

My Negear router also gives me headaches. Amongst other multiple problems it has, it doesn't seem to upgrade the firmware properly. I browse for the firmware file, click upload, and after a while it gives me "Page cannot be displayed" in the upload frame.

Once flashed with the latest firmware works DG834 hasn't had a reboot since it was installed. It handles multiple NAT box's doing heavy downloading/uploading and P2P all day every day. I did test a 834G for a week or so but TBH we barely used the wireless side of things so I can't offer much objective info on the difference having wireless gave to stability.

Personally i'd push Smoothwall/IPCop if you have spare hardware or a DD-WRT flashed Linksys for the win every time but that's just me.

Absolute nightmare these things, got a DG834G v3 here, but gone back to my voyager modem as well, every now and again when i turn my PC on i cant get any internet at all, even though the routers on and working fine (lights are blinking as normal), i know when its buggered as my MSN signs in automatically, but when its buggered it starts to sign in then just red x's, then i know ive got no net, but when i unplug it and re-plug it back in it comes back on fine, and it only done it once in a blue moon so it didn't really bother me until now.

On Saturday though i had a right **** on trying to get it on, took me over an hr, i was unplugging, replugging, but the **** just wouldn't have it, so i thought i better give AOL a ring see if my connection was down as as i said i only have to unplug it once when it does it and its fine when i plug it back it in, they checked it said it was fine, so i had to dig out my modem to try that as then i thought the router had finally buggered (only had it a couple of months or so as well), and what do you know connected straight away, so then a bit later i tried the router again, and it finally worked, but im sticking with me modem as that is ******* ****, ive heard its a common problem with the Netgears, something to do with p2p, so im just sticking with me modem now, sod the router, im not putting up with that crap, as i said though with it only doing it once in a blue moon, and a quick unplug, replug got it going again i didn't mind, but after over an hr on Sat with it just not having a unplug, replug umpteen times, no way.

You're telling me.
Just bought a netgear dg834n and card bundle to replace the dg834g because it wouldn't connect to certain wireless cards (i had 3 identical cards, it would connect to one but none of the others) and it kept dropping ym internet connection.
Guess what, the new router and card are dropping out and now it can't connect to the wireless network. Emailed netgear tech support.

I hate them with a passion.
Back to my 'wireless network cable' 30m cable off the bay. Its a pain but at least it damn well works.

I tell you what happens, you wait a year for working firmware and drivers, then by that times its too old and has started dieing so it never actually works. Its all a great big scam.

Im just gona keep mine spare now, so if my modem dies then at least ill be able to get on the net while im waiting for a replacement, then once i get that ill be back on it, no way do i want to have to use this poop for longer than i have to now. :(

I'm going to give netgear tech support hell until they get this working.
I am really really really angry, i haven't been this angry at something for a while.
My media centre grinds to a halt now because it can't sync its clock and can't download the guide so it records garbage.

Of course the tv card doesn't have working drivers either so its pot luck when that works. It makes me mad.

I never thought i'd say this, but vista might actually be a good thing in this respect with its new driver model thing requiring working drivers.
