Hey All,

Wondering if you can shed some light on anything - just popped over to a friends house who had bought some of those netgear plug things, to carry the signal via the mains to a PC.

1xPlug was in the kitchen wired up to the router, the other plug in the bedroom wired to the PC...

it showed the gateway as 192.168.0.1 which is the router address and everything seemed to be fine, but you get no internet... the wireless works fine and tried connecting another laptop incase it was a network card driver issue - and same thing... they have a sling box connected so i "ping" that and had a 75% packet loss!

The taskbar icon would sometimes show "internet access" and other times "no internet access" and was very intermittent almost like interference or a dodgy cable... now I have a similar setup up home, albeit not netgear equipment - just tried the same plugs and cables she was using and works here sweet as a nut! :)

So what can I check at hers to test it? I logged into the router via a wifi connected machine and on the LAN list it didnt show the PC despite the showing it had been assigned an IP address (i did check the network card settings and obtain automatically was on so wasnt a preloaded one...)

I am stumped...

If the bedroom is upstairs, then my guess is because each floor has their own eletric curcuit. The homeplugs work fine when they're on a single curcuit, but when the network signal has to travel from one curcuit to another, then it greatly degrades, usually to a point where it won't work.
Try placing the router upstairs or some extension plug from upstairs to the router for the homeplug...?
