Im looking at getting a new router and pcmia card for my laptop.

Netgear WPNT834 RangeMax 240 Wireless Router
&
Netgear WPNT511 RangeMax 240 Wireless Notebook Adapter

Has anyone used this combo or any rangemax combo and seen real world improvements in speed and coverage?

At the moment i have Netgear 108mb/s router and a 802.11B in my laptop and 802.11G in my Imac and the speeds are :

When connected via cable to cable box 1200kb/sec
When connected on laptop.. 200kb/sec
when conneced on Mac... 400kb/sec

Do you think the Rangemax could improve this Both in the Laptop with the new 802.11N Card and still improve the signal and speeds to the 802.11G in the mac?

thanks Mike

hmm i could be wrong but my brother's 54G apple macbook and my D-Link 54G access point does 2.4MB/sec at best, and via a cable i can get around 8-9MB/sec

i meant you should be capable of around 1-2MB/sec atleast on the wireless and 8-9MB/sec on wired. i suppose the wireless is up for debate as it depends on the quality of the signal.

The 802.11b adapter will slow everything (including the iMac) down, so seeing a reduced speed isn't much of a surprise. The iMac should be faster if you switch the laptop off though.
Though there isn't a lot of point is in a 108Mbps router with 11/54Mbps wireless cards...

Well they have arrived and heres a comparison

OLD

When connected via ethernet direct to cable box 1200kb/sec
When connected with wifi on laptop.. 200kb/sec
when conneced with wifi on Mac... 400kb/sec

NEW

When connected via ethernet direct to cable box 1200kb/sec
When connected with wifi on laptop.. 1200kb/sec
when conneced with wifi on Mac... 650kb/sec
