netgear router dg834 unable to change mtu

ive tried different firmware but its still stuck at the same mtu 1478 any ideas whay it cant be changed,ive changed it on my router right you cant go wrong with that

I'm with F2S and get the same issue, they seem to be controlling MTU from their end as of a couple of weeks ago.

This an optimisation that tends to lead to better throughput.

Go back a couple of years in the ADSL world and the more switched on ISPs were telling the more techincal users to play with MTU to get better thorughput.

A few with the right equipment took the view that it was better to simply enforce the MTU value centrally so all users benefitted from it withotu have to alter anything.

You can debate exactly what the value should be, but 1478 seems to deliver the best results for most people. If this has only recently happened for you as an F2S user it would tend to suggest that you are now being routed over Nildram equipment as that has had the optimisation in place for a long time now.
