Netgear Router on Virgin Media

A friend of mine has recently purchased a Netgear RP614 to go with their VM connection, however it keeps coming up saying that they have a static IP.

Now I was under the impression that VM only gave static IPs to businesses, is there a way to rectify this?

I tried to set it up manually originally and it didn't get anywhere so I tried the wizard and it says static IP detected.

If I then go ahead to assign the router the IP & DNS that the PC originally had it still doesn't work.

If it's cable, it shouldn't need any setting up - the most you'll have to do is restart the modem so it'll work with the router's MAC address.

Yes, this is usually the case. It isn't working on my friends connection. I took it to my house and it works fine on mine, picks everything up straight away.

Virgin were very unhelpful when I called them up about it.

And have you turned off the modem, and left it switched off for a minute or so before powering it back on and connecting the router?

I have the same router on my cable connection and i had to use a crossover cable to the modem to get it working.
make sure you leave all the settings under "Basic Settings" as get from ISP and set the "Require A login" to no.
Then reboot the modem and it should pickup the addresses.

Peace
