I have a Netgear Dg834 wired router. Bought it back in the day when I figured I wouldn't have much use for wireless. I'm regretting that a bit now, so wondered if its possible to buy anything a)simple and B ) cheap to turn it in to a wireless router?

I mainly want to use my PSP for displaying the web page of any internet radio that I'm listening too. I have a Squeezebox 3 (wired)hooked up to the hifi in a separate room. Occasionally hook it up to the pc via a run of ethernet cable to listen to some internet radio. Unfortunatly half the ones I like don't support broadcasting the information of things like band/artist played so have to keep going into the room where the pc is to find out what the song is!

Or would it be easier (I'm guessing not cheaper!)to buy a wireless router and have done with it?

couple of options:

buy an access point

or

replace the router for one with a built in access point

depends how much you want to spend, and whether your bothered about having an extra box and cabling knocking around.

I use a Netgear WiFi Access Point on my LAN as I have a Linux Router.

I have a WG602v2 which was £50. So not much different to the cost of a WiFi router. (Just checked and OCUK sell these for £43 inc vat)

All I need to do with this WiFi router is plug it into a spare network socket, let DHCP from my main router give it an address, then setup the encryption as normal.

The advantage of a separate WiFi AP is it can be turned off for extra security. :) Find me someone who can hack a WiFi point which is powered down. :)
