Netgear Wireless Gone

Hiya Folks

I have a new Netgear wireless Router WNR834b with the newest firmware
Up until yesterday was working fine on the wireless.

Then my son comes down from upstairs saying his laptop wont connect to wireless.

I check it and His laptop no longer finds the router via wireless. It finds others but not mine.

It works fine hard wired its just that the wireless has gone

I have re-booted all machines and router and modem (on cable) even done a reset on router

I have also had a mate with his N95 try and find it..Nothing


Any ideas or does it appear to be faulty

Have you checked the settings to make sure it's publishing it's SSID?

In a nutshell, if this is turned off then when anythings nearby (like your mates N95) starts 'browsing' for wireless networks, yours wont be listed. That doesn't explain why it did work and now doesn't, as once the connection has been setup, you can then turn off the SSID and devices should still connect.
 
Ok in checking the above i also noticed that the channel was set to auto so changed it to chanell 4 and now the laptop has found it again

Coincidence?? Not sure but dont care

Is there a preferred channel or any
 
Hey up,

Any channel will be fine, but some will work better than others.

Pot luck as to how many wifi networks are zipping around near your house, and how strong and what channels their using.
