Lo all,

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I've got a NetGear WG311v3 and a NetGear DG834N.

I've got good signal strength between the two and both NetGear smart wizard and Wireless connection in windows say I'm connected but it wont give me an i.p address.

It just stopped last night with no warning and so far it hasn't magically fixed itself.

all the other computers in the house (all macs) don't have a problem.

I've tried resetting the router to factory defaults and I've re-installed the network card with latest drivers etc etc.

Any ideas?

Cheers

try using Microsoft's wireless network manager.

I take it the wireless connection properties are set to set ip automaticly......??

Clear out all the old wirelss connections set up in the wizards and reenter passwords and security type etc ensuring they are the router defaults or whatever you have set them to.

sometime moving a pci cards slot may resolve things like this or it may be goosed.

Cool cheers guys I'll give it a go.

Blastman I've tried the wireless zero config if that's what you mean. Does exactly the same thing as the NetGear app.

I'll give your suggestion a go errata cheers. I've already had a graphics card die on me this week, the last thing I need is my wireless card to go as well. :(

Good job I've got a new computer on the way in a couple of weeks!

Just had the same issue. Removed all the netgear nonsense, re-installed hardware and only the drivers (no netgear software) and let windows configure the wireless connection - and it worked :)

have you tried putting custom IP settings in?

something like

IP: 192.168.1.110
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: (the IP of your router config pages usually 192.168.1.1)

And your isp's DNS server details.

Sometimes routers/nics can get confused as to what ips certain mac addresses should have and even though your router may not show it.

Also if in doubt, try it via ethernet

Wireless card isn't getting an i.p but it says it's connected to the network with good signal strength.

I could try specifying the i.p settings myself I suppose, can't connect with ethernet because the router is too far away.

I'll give firstborn's idea a go and then if that fails I'll try manually setting the i.p

Cheers for the continued help guys.

Don't set the IP manually yet.

What you describe is exactly what i was getting. I set the DNS server to the router's IP and from netgear's software i set the channel to 20MHz only. Tried a host of other things but it was those two that got it working in the end.

Yes I also had this, updating my intel wifi drivers helped but it was more consistent just to set the ip/mask/gateway & dns manually.
