Netgear WN311B Driver issues [fixed by MAllen]

Guys, if anyone has had this problem, or knows where I can get an actual driver file that's not wrapped in a cab file that can't be read aside from by the installer, could you link me or let me know how you overcame it?

When I run any of the drivers from the site, 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2, it just starts the install process, minimises the install to the bar, then just does nothing, forever. You can't maximise the window again, or do absolutely anything else at all. This is driving me insane. I've googled my ass off, looking for a fix, or just a bare driver file I can install via windows manually, but as far as I can see there's nothing.

If anyone has any idea at all, please share. The Netgear support line is utterly useless as usual. Just some people from a call center somewhere reading from a sheet, who tried telling me that my computer might not be up to task, because it's a Core 2 Duo, which they've never heard of, and I must be sure I'm using at least a pentium 3.

Could be the installer fouling up with some mess in your TEMP folder. (Seen it happen)

From your Start menu, select "Run...", type "%TEMP%" into the window (without the quotes) and hit OK.

This is your temp files folder. Start by deleting all of the crap in here. If there are a few files that won't delete, just skip them and delete the rest.

Now stay in this folder, and try running that installer again. I bet a new folder will pop up as you do this. In here will be your unpacked cab file.

Sadly, that hasn't worked so far, and within the temp folder after I run the install again, all that appears is the unextracted cab files. ):

This is now officially the most frustrating purchase I've made in years.

Thanks for trying to help out with this.
Sadly that link didn't work, but it did make me realise that it's almost certainly a bug with installshield instead of looking at the driver file as the issue.

It seems to be using installshield 6.31, and I've been looking around for any issues with that version (seems pretty old) and XP Pro SP2 but no luck so far.

You're an absolute legend.

Thankyou very much.

I just cracked open the cab file, and used the bare drivers to install it manually with that utility. I hate installshield, so, so much.

Problem solved thanks to MAllen

Can't blame Installshield for trying to protect their monopoly. Though I have never understood why both Microsoft and Installshield call their files ".cab" but neither are compatible with each other. Or why they don't just let WinZip etc have the tools to unpack them.

MS can add tools into their OS for zip files - so why not their own cabs? (And don't they now own Installshield?)

Glad it all worked out well for you. :)
