What are the different ways you can network 2 separate sites? By different i mean either cost effective or ideal or optimised and list prices too.

What i need is a central location to access files whether its on a fileserver or on a users computer that is consistently accessible.

**assume workstations are 2000 & xp pro

how do you go about setting it up with this scenario in mind?

security and reliablity is a key issue.

let me know please.

what internet connections do they have in place? how close are the sites? MPLS is what we use linking currently 25 sites or we used to use a smoothwall VPN which also worked well.

not entirely sure of the connection speed. Just broadband is what i've been told so imagine its sufficient enough but for what exactly im not sure.

MPLS & smoothwall vpn?

if they're on the same isp then they might offer an mpls solution. It's very easy and all managed by claranet our isp. When we get an adsl connection the router is setup with our internal subnet ie 172.25.158.1 with a dhcp range of .100 to .200

The site will then have full network connection to the internet as well as full internal access. Perhaps overkill for two sites though.

Other than that i'd look into VPN tunnel solutions. Smoothwall is good, have a look round their site. All you'd have is site A with a corporate smoothwall server setup and site B a smaller server (can be a very low spec box) sits with a permanent connection to site A.

This box at site b will have two nics, the first connected to your adsl router and the second connected to your switch which is in turn connected to all your workstations on site and gives out internal dhcp addresses etc.

As zap has said, smoothwall is one way of doing it, just note that they have two different sites. One for home users along with a corporate site.

You failed to tell us the distance between the sites?

Someone would ask purely for confirmation or recommendation on other methods for performing such tasks;) Not homework or anything like that.

why are people so unwilling even if it was homework which its not.
