So, i have my brand new Panasonic VT30 plasma and now i want to stream all my movies & music and photos to it.
I want to know what the best option would be for me:

The NAS will be in the upstairs study and will stream wirelessly to the TV downstairs.

The NAS will also back up these files, and any new multimedia, and productivity files created by myself and others.

The NAS will stream these files via a J/Broken Apple TV 2 & XBMC.

I will probably make use of the torrent download features available on some NAS boxes.

Thats all i can think of as usage wise anyway.

Synology seem to get a good review, DSJ 411/Slim. Anyone have any experience with these?

Look forward to you replies. Thank you

Synology should do all above

As long as your apple tv can see dnla shouldn't be an problem.

As for wireless as long as the tv and apple tv are wireless enabled should be ok but bear in mind streaming should be fine for standard definition content but may become stuttery with full 1080P contents but that all depends on signal strength and transfere rate wirelessly.

As for which box to get ds411j is pretty good for the money if your looking at the slim it only takes 2.5" drives so looking at 1Tb drives where as the 411j will take 3.5" drives so can go for 2TB drives which can be found for £50 or less now.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes i agree with your point about the slim and the 1TB drives and think that going with the 3.5" drives is probably better, especially considering the cost of the drives.

As far as i can tell, the Apple TV 2 is limited to 720p playback so i wont get 1080p from it anyway- but this is to be confirmed. Then there is the issue of whether or not i can tell the difference between 720 & and 1080 from where i sit (about 2.5m).

I will have to get myself a new modem/router as i am currently using the standard one supplied by BE, who is my ISP. I dont think this will be up to the job. Could someone maybe confirm or deny that?

Also, if i buy lets say the 4 bay 411J and stick 2 drives in it with a raid back up, when i run out of space and stick another drive in will it have to build the whole array again and if so can i change the raid to say 5?
Thanks
