hi guys,

i work in a office with about 8 computers and there is a couple of wifi access points too all connected to a netgear smart gb switch.
now i would like a program to monitor connections all all the pcs and see what is using the most bandwidth at any one time.

does anyone know anything good and simple to get this setup and how do i do it ?

If you have a pc running all the time you can put a LAMP / LEMP stack on it and use Cacti with rrdtool. This can poll data from a switch that has snmp.

http://cacti.net/

Edit: Spiceworks also has some network monitoring features but I doubt as detailed as Cacti but maybe of interest if you already use Spiceworks. Haven't installed either but it's on my todo at some point, I was just recently looking at what was available to do this job though.

Which model NetGear switch?

If it supports SNMP, then I'd get PRTG Free (100 sensors) which will graph per port traffic. PRTG is super-easy to configure on a Windows PC / Server.
