I've read the stickies, so apologies in advance if im asking something covered in there. I also have no clue about routers/networks etc so...go easy on me
Right, we've got two computers at home, one is mine, the other is mostlky family oriented. My problem is that over the past few weeks, my connection seems to be getting worse and worse.
I play on line games a lot, namely CSS, and therefore, i need as low a ping time as possible, whereas the family computer is mostly used for just surfing the net etc. My ping on CS usually varies between 30 ish and 80 ish max, though of course, its also dependant on the server location (i'd assume), though recently i've been going upwards of 5/600, and pretty much can't play at all.
I run adaware/avg/spybot etc and have no 'rubbish' on my system, and the family comp is also pretty clean (at least, going by these programs), but what i tried this weekend showed otherwise;
I unplugged the family comp from the router, and my ping was instantly dropped down to the 40's - totally fine, but as soon as i'd plug the family comp back into the router, it'd be sky-rocketing again. I then tried unplugging my comp, yet the ping on the same CSS servers was still in the 500's - 1000 on the family comp, and plugging my own comp. back in made little difference. And of course, this was tried on a multitude of different servers, so it wasn't a server-side problem.
So, as i said, i've run numerous anti-spyware/virus programs etc, and they don't seem to be helping (much), and though i've been trying to persuade them to format the family comp, they're not having it...
...so... is there a way i can alter the settings on my router so that im allocated say 90% of the bandwidth? would it even work/is it even feasible? are there any other ways around it?
Thanks in advance
oohh, almost forgot. The router i'm using is:
