Hello Peeps.

Well long story short, my Master socket has stopped working, and the last couple of times this has happened BT have been called, and it ended up costing £300. I tried the test socket and it worked, it also gave me a 3Mb speed boost over the extension I was previously using (nice internal wiring!)

Anyhow, I was looking at getting a gigabit switch to improve the speeds between the datastore / file-server I have with my ESXi box and also my PC. Now that i cant use the switch inbuilt in the I thought that this was a perfect excuse to buy a Linksys WRT54GL and flash it with the tomato firmware, and uplink it to a gigabit switch. Besides using a crossover cable, is there anything that I need to know when setting this up? If anybody has done this before what's the reliability of the connection like? Is tomato easy to setup?

I would just like to hear some peoples experience of using a wireless ethernet bridge.

Thanks!:)

Hey,

Sorry the post was a bit garbled I had to do it quickly whilst I was at work. Thanks for the info on the crossover cable, I thought Auto-MDIX was a feature on managed switches!

Yes wij you are correct, I simply need to connect a gigabit switch upstairs with the router downstairs, wires are out of the question and its cheaper than a homeplug.

Ok, i understand asking about reliability is a silly thing to do, but its about 10ft away from the router, it just has a floor in the way.

Really I was just wondering if there was any caveats to doing such a thing before is pent the cash just to find out that it would only work in leap years or something :) any help is appreciated thanks!
